Im Jahr 2015 kam die Singer-Songwriterin Heather Ann McKee (die heute unter dem Künstler*innen Namen HeZza FeZza auftritt) zusammen mit dem Architektin Bas Kools in die Weißenseer Spitze. Im Gepäck hatten die beiden die Vision des Park(ing) Day: eine globale Initiative, die seit 2005 jährlich weltweit einen Aktionstag zur Re-Urbanisierung von Innenstädten startet. Sie macht sich dafür stark, Parkplätze im öffentlichen Straßenraum modellhaft temporär umzuwidmen für andere Nutzungen, etwa als grüne Oasen als Gastronomie- und Sitzflächen, als Fahrradabstellfläche etc. Eight years ago the avantgarde singer-songwriter Heather Ann McKee (now known as HeZza FeZza) and the architect Bas Kools came to the Weißensser Spitze bringing along the inspiration of with the concept for the PARK(ing) Day, They envisioned a a global initiative in which people across the world temporarily repurpose parking spaces and convert them into tiny parks that are places for art, play and activism. Their invitation and vision: Realising this concept in our neighbourhood. 

Die beiden, die damals gerade an der Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt Oder Kommunikationsdesign studierten, suchten nach einem Kiez für die Umsetzung ihrer Idee eines multifunktionalen Gefährtes, das Parkplätze “besetzen” und vor allem in  Stadtteilen mit weniger belebtem öffentlichen Raum als Kommunikationsplattform dienen könne. Auf Hinweis eines Kommunalpolitikers in Pankow suchten sie die IG Weißenseer Spitze Spitze e.V. auf, dessen Vorstandsvorsitzende Marion Koch, studierte Opernsängerin, sofort offen für die Idee war. Sie haben KIEZ:MOBIL zusammen mit Nachbar*innen, darunter auch dem 88-jährigen Arno Kiehl, aufgebaut, der im ostdeutschen DDR-Kabarett “Die Reizzwecken” aufgetreten ist. HeZza and Bas – who were then studying communication design at the European University Viadrina, took part in the “MittenDrin” Berlin contest to revitalize neighborhoods. Their idea of a mobile vehicle that served as a platform for communication and interaction, and that could be parked in regular parking spaces won a prize, and they were able to use the money awarded to take the concept from idea to action. They searched for a neighborhood with underdeveloped potential for public actions like this, and found  the Weißenseer Spitze and its local association the IG Weißensser Spitze e.V. chaired by Marion Koch who was open to their ideas. They built KIEZ:MOBIL together with neighbors including 88 year old Arno Kiehl, who performed with the East German GDR cabaret “Die Reizzwecken“.

Als Heather und Bas in die USA umzogen, und auch beim Verein damals keine Kapazitäten für den Betrieb des Parklets zur Verfügung standen, parkte das Mobil eine Zeit lang vor der Kiezkneipe Dolores. Als Dolores im ersten Sommer der Corona-Pandemie aufs Land zog, bot der Co-Working und Projektraum C*SPACE einen seiner im Gewerbehof der Langhansstraße 86 angemieteten Parkplätze als “Anker-Hafen” für das Mobil an. Eine Kooperation wiederum mit der IG Weißenseer Spitze sowie eine Projektförderung des Programms “FEIN” ermöglicht nun seit 2021, dass das Parklet, das jetzt KIEZ:MOBIl heißt, wieder verstärkt für gemeinnützige Zwecke im Kiez verwendet werden kann. When Heather and Bas moved to the United States and the association could not take the project on, KIEZ:MOBIL spent some time parked in front of the local bar Dolores. When Dolores relocated to the countryside in the first summer of the Corona pandemic, the co-working and project space C*SPACE offered a parking space at Langhansstraße 86 as somewhere for KIEZ:MOBIL to put down anchor. Since 2021, IG Weißenseer Spitze and the FEIN program’s project funding enable KIEZ:MOBIL to take on more frequent not for profit initiatives in the neighborhood.

Aber eigentlich fängt die Geschichte des KIEZ:MOBILs ja noch viel früher an. Mit Institutionen wie dem Kultur- und Kunstzentrum Brotfabrik ist der Kiez Weißenseer Spitze schon seit vor dem Mauerfall ein Kiez in Bewegung und vor allem ein Kiez mit viel Kreativität und Sinn für Gemeinschaftsgeist. KIEZ:MOBIL takes its name from the spirit of this neighborhood, a Kiez in action. This tradition has deep roots here, not least with the local Brotfabrik center for culture and the arts, and there are many other examples of outdoor urban space (re)creation
